Fort Worth crime numbers, empty houses, and a monitored alarm

City of Fort Worth figures released in February 2026, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, show overall crime down 13.8% in 2025 versus 2024 — 48,016 incidents versus 55,692. Property crime was down 17%. Homicides were 81, up 8%. Chief Eddie Garcia is the 2026 police chief. That mix is citywide. It is not a reason to leave a Fairmount side door unlocked on a Tuesday while you sit downtown.

What City of Fort Worth published in February 2026

Citywide, overall crime fell 13.8% in 2025 versus 2024 (48,016 versus 55,692). Property crime fell 17%. Homicides were 81, up 8% from the prior year. Those are Fort Worth Police Department citywide counts, as the city and the Star-Telegram reported in February 2026. They mix Fairmount, Stockyards, Ridglea, TCU, Alliance, and downtown. A quieter street is not 24/7 monitoring, and a neighbor on the porch is not an ADT operator. We do not publish neighborhood crime rates.

Direction on the citywide total is real. The reason people still order is occupancy: porch packages, a tried door, and houses that sit empty after drop-off or a commute on I-30 or I-35W.

Boxes on Fairmount, West 7th, and TCU porches

Walkable streets are why people add a doorbell. Fairmount, West 7th, the Cultural District, and TCU-area houses collect boxes on porches while owners are at work, on Loop 820, or downtown. A camera you check yourself is useful. It is not the same as ADT calling you when a door opens.

The system is for the hours no one is looking out the window — not a claim that Ridglea or Keller is dangerous.

Empty houses after FWISD drop-off and the north-side commute

Fort Worth ISD drop-off empties in-city two-stories. Northwest ISD, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Keller, Carroll, Grapevine-Colleyville, Mansfield, Crowley, Aledo, Arlington ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, and Birdville empty the rest of the map until pickup. A flight out of DFW empties Grapevine and Euless doors the same way. That is when people want the system armed.

What people actually order after a missing box or a leftover keypad

Door and window sensors, including the garage and any extra unit if you have one. A doorbell camera if packages sit out front. Outdoor cameras if the driveway holds a car overnight. Cellular backup so the panel still reaches ADT when Oncor or Wi-Fi drops. That is the Fort Worth order, not a twelve-camera quote unless you ask for one.

Is Fort Worth “safe enough” to skip monitoring?

Citywide crime was down in that February 2026 report. Porch theft and empty houses did not take the year off. Monitoring is for the hours you commute, fly out of DFW, or leave for school drop-off — not a verdict on your ZIP.

Do quieter streets like Ridglea still order ADT?

Yes. Ridglea, Arlington Heights, Keller, and Southlake orders are usually school-day empties, leftover keypads, and packages on the porch. Same ADT watch as Fairmount. Independent cities are not Fort Worth Police. We name the desk from the ZIP. We do not invent neighborhood crime rates.

Will Fort Worth Police come if the alarm trips?

ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside the City of Fort Worth that is typically Fort Worth Police. Arlington, Keller, Southlake, and other cities dispatch differently. Confirm the office from your ZIP. Fort Worth homeowners still file the $50 yearly permit through CryWolf at 833-281-8742.
